About Us

This is the Jauregui-Botero Family. My husband and I with our three children are embarking this summer 2015 in a quest to walk the almost 500 miles (780 km) to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. We will be trekking El Camino Frances that starts in France in St. Jean Pied de Port and travels west through northern Spain, a route that pilgrims have walked for centuries to St. James’ tomb in Santiago de Compostela.

Walkers:

  • Lucas, 17 – Upraising Senior in the IB program at Adams High School. He is member of the National Honor Society. He enjoys playing tennis, lacrosse, and piano; loves to make music (beats). He volunteers at El Campito.
  • Andrés, 16 – Upraising Sophomore in the Pre-IB program at Adams High School. He enjoys playing tennis, lacrosse and piano; loves to learn to play the theme song to many of the shows he watches. He volunteers at El Campito.
  • Felipe, 8 – Upraising 4th grader at the Good Shepherd Montessori. He enjoys playing soccer, tennis and piano.
  • Carlos, 47 – Professor of Latin American Literature and Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame.
  • Tatiana, 49 – Professor of the Practice, Spanish at the University of Notre Dame.

We are walking together as a family, determined, even as we are unsure of our own ability to accomplish this journey. Our walk will have several objectives, one being to spend time with each other, and to create stronger family bonds. This is especially important now that our oldest will start his last year in high school and will leave soon for college. We want a memorable experience, one that will be hard to forget. Also we believe that to live life to the fullest one must commit to service so our other objective for this trip is to raise money for El Campito Child Development Center in South Bend, a place where my kids volunteer and where my students work with families and co-write their stories as part of their coursework.  For more information visit their website at http://www.elcampito.org/ El Campito has many needs but we want to focus and raise money for it’s after school recreation program.

We would like to invite you to join us through our blog and to help us in this journey with your prayers and a pledge per mile for El Campito. Your generosity will move us to overcome the pains and vicissitudes of the journey, but more importantly it will support a worthy cause and provide many kids with a safe and fun space to play. Your name and/or company’s name (unless otherwise instructed) will appear in our blog as a sponsor, and you will be honored once the renovations are completed. El Campito is a 501(c)3 and your donations are tax deductible.
